Designer Danya Weevers ‘The Power Of Women’ At VFW + What Inspired Her

Hey Everyone I hope you’re enjoying all of the Vancouver Fashion Week collections that I’ve been adding! I know I took a lot of photos, and I still have quite a few more runway collections to show you. Today this VFW 2016 edition post is about Danya Weevers collection “The Power Of Women”. Danya Weever’s is a fashion designer from the Netherlands, who was inspired by her internships at Elsien Gringhuis and Dennis Diem. Her collections are often presented twice a year online, and this year at Vancouver Fashion Week. Danya’s designs can be described as minimalistic, while she acquires further inspiration from the human being- of their purity, or vulnerability…she’s even encouraged women to write in a diary and expose who they are on the inside to her, this is just one of the many ways Danya proves to be a Designer who wants her clothing to reflect who we are.

My goal is to create an item that makes these woman feel comfortable. A piece that sends a message: I am not afraid to show on the outside what is happening on the inside. A piece that invites other women to open up and do the same.”

Danya pays attention to detail as she carefully balances materials and shapes. She wants her garments and creations to allow the wearers personality, and characteristics to shine through.  As I watched the models come down the runway wearing her clothing I found the ‘The Power Of Women’ collection to appear delicate. The colour palette she chose was soft, and the makeup on the models was refreshingly neutral.

I was particularly drawn to the black and nude outfit that had beautiful chiffon like puffs on the legs and arms, and the subdued two tone affect in her dresses. I also reached out to Danya because I was drawn to her collection, and she provided me with what the inspiration was behind ‘The Power Of Women'(in her own words, she’s so nice too!!), and a few professional shots of her creations for this season.

And, there’s also the photo’s I took from the front row below. And, if you’d like to see more from this wonderful designer you can check her out here: Danya Weevers Website

“THE POWER OF WOMEN”

“The Power Of Women-Is a fashion line inspired by the inner strength of women.

Todays’ harsh society often considers emotions as a sign of weakness, an impediment. However, I am convinced that strength lies in the ability to feel. That emotions are an enrichment in life, enabling us to intensely experience what happens in the world around us.

‘Why am I so emotional? Why do I have all these feelings?” are questions often asked by women around me. In return, I asked them “What do you feel?” and challenged them. Do you dare to be aware of your emotions? And do you dare to embrace them? In a diary they opened up and told their personal stories.

The strength and emotion that speaks from their stories has inspired me to create this collection. I sat down with these women and together we experimented with shape, color, fabric, print and text, creating a piece of clothing that reflects each of their stories. My goal is to create an item that makes these woman feel comfortable. A piece that sends a message: I am not afraid to show on the outside what is happening on the inside. A piece that invites other women to open up and do the same.”There’s no reason things can’t be beautiful Danya Weevers
