A Beauty Tip Fit For A Russian Queen

“She may not have been Russian by birth, but her royal marriage lead her to a life spent as
one of Russia’s longest ruling women on the throne. Ekaterina II of Russia was born Princess Sophia Augusta Fredericka, and if you want to get your inner historian on, her full German name was Sophie Friederike Auguste von Anhalt-Zerbst-Dornburg. As for the English speaking world, she’s simply known as Catherine the Great. Catherine the Great revitalized Russia under her rule, leading Russia to emerge as one of the great powers of Europe. But asides from her accomplishments during her rule, her life was caught in scandal. In her later years, after the death of Peter III, Catherine was known to be against re-marriage, gaining a reputation for desiring younger men who would often enter her life. So how did the Russian Empress maintain her fabled beauty that enthralled the young men at her court?

Don’t be surprised when I say that Catherine was a fan of ice cubes! It was claimed that Russian monarch loved beauty, and had her own secret beauty tip up her sleeve. Each morning the Empress would rub an ice cube all over her face, neck, and décolletage in order to preserve her beauty, and gain a glowing complexion.  Which I think this is one of the perfect beauty tips to mention since it’s summertime after-all, and what better way to fight the signs of aging, then with a little bit of DIY cool down therapy that also will help you beat the heat.

“The ice cube therapy can help minimize pores and control the oil production, it also can prevent premature aging and the appearance of wrinkles. Regular use of ice cubes will give your face fresh and healthy glow, so that you’ll look gorgeous, even with no make up -Beautytips4her

Some recommend against the use of regular tap water, and suggest using mineral water. Also herbal infusions are popular, which is something I’ve tried! I prefer using green tea with this belief that the green tea has natural anti-aging / anti-inflammatory properties + antioxidants , while the caffeine in the tea adds a little boost in keeping skin firm. While using chamomile might be better suited for dryer skin types. Anyways, ice cube facials are cheap, and an easy DIY to do in the comfort of your own home! Plus it’s a method that’s been used for centuries!

A little bit more about…Catherine the Great!

The period of Catherine the Great’s rule, the Catherinian Era, is often considered the Golden Age of the Russian Empire and the Russian nobility. The Manifesto on Freedom of the Nobility, issued during the short reign of Peter III and confirmed by Catherine, freed Russian nobles from compulsory military or state service. Construction of many mansions of the nobility, in the classical style endorsed by the Empress, changed the face of the country. A notable example of an enlightened despot, a correspondent ofVoltaire and an amateur opera librettist, Catherine presided over the age of the Russian Enlightenment, when the Smolny Institute, the first state-financed higher education institution for women in Europe, was established. -Wikipedia
